THE Home Ministry will introduce a special electronic pass for investors and expatriate groups from 1 April 2025, Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, announced in Parliament.
The pass, designed to facilitate longer stays for those managing investments in Malaysia, aims to improve the ease of doing business, he said during Minister’s Question Time on Thursday.
“The quicker and easier applications are, the better their acceptance of the business climate in this country,” he added.
Saifuddin also addressed the backlog of entry permit applications for spouses of Malaysian citizens, revealing that 11,700 applications were currently outstanding.
The Immigration Department, he assured, is committed to clearing all applications by June this year.
This announcement follows an earlier statement by Deputy Home Minister Shamsul Anuar Nasarah, who on Monday detailed improvements to the entry permit process for Malaysian spouses.
The revised procedures, to be implemented from 1 September, will require foreign wives of Malaysian citizens to have been married for at least three years and to have held a social visit pass for one year.
For foreign husbands of Malaysian citizens, a minimum marriage period of five years will be required.
