Gene Hackman, Oscar-winning actor, found dead with wife at home

GENE Hackman, the celebrated two-time Academy Award winner, has died at his home in Santa Fe, New Mexico, alongside his wife, Betsy Arakawa, and their dog, according to reports from the Santa Fe New Mexican website.

Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza, speaking to the website, stated that there were “no immediate indications of foul play” surrounding the deaths.

The 95-year-old actor and his 63-year-old wife, a pianist, were discovered at their residence.

Local police were not immediately available for comment.

Mr Hackman was renowned for his intense performances, earning Oscars for his roles in the 1971 crime thriller “The French Connection” and the 1992 western “Unforgiven.”.

A former Marine, his extensive career spanned more than 80 films, as well as appearances on television and the stage, commencing in the early 1960s.

He resided outside Santa Fe, and was married twice, fathering three children. He married Arakawa in 1991.
