PAS welcomes Umno’s decision to name Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob as its prime ministerial candidate for the next general election, says Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan (pic).
The PAS secretary-general said his party currently fully supports Ismail Sabri as the ninth Prime Minister and called for the continuation of the memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the government and Opposition bloc Pakatan Harapan until Parliament is dissolved.
“The Unity Agenda pioneered by him has proved to be a success in creating stability as well as a good political climate and harmony in the country.
“This approach will certainly be supported by all on a bipartisan basis for the good of the country,” he said in a statement on Friday (April 15).
On April 14, Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan announced that Ismail Sabri was Umno’s choice for prime minister for the 15th General Election.
He said the unanimous decision was made by the Umno supreme council.
The supreme council also decided that the MOU between Putrajaya and Pakatan Harapan would not be extended after July 31.
Meanwhile, Ahmad said another Umno general assembly would be held on May 14 to carry out amendments to the party constitution in relation to its party polls.
“On the same day, there will be an Umno anniversary celebration and Hari Raya Aidilfitri reception,” he added.
On March 19, the Umno general assembly approved a motion to postpone the party elections for up to six months after the GE15.
