THE ARAB League secretary-general, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, has strongly rejected any suggestion of displacing Palestinians from the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, labelling the idea as “unacceptable” for the region.
Speaking at the World Governments Summit in Dubai on Wednesday, Aboul Gheit warned, “The focus today is on Gaza today, and tomorrow it will shift to the West Bank to empty Palestine of its historical inhabitants.” He added, “It’s unacceptable for the Arab world, which has fought this idea for 100 years.”
Aboul Gheit’s comments, reported by AFP, came amid a discussion of proposals for resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. He emphasised the Arab world’s century-long opposition to any such displacement.
“After resisting this for 100 years, we Arabs are not about to capitulate in any way now because we have not suffered a political, military or cultural defeat,” he said.
