SUPPORTERS of former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan said the attack on him on Thursday was an attempt at assassination.
Violence has erupted in Faizabad, and tear gas was fired against protestors outside the Governor’s House in Lahore reports DAWN.
Imran, 70, is now reported to be recovering in hospital due to a leg wound from a shot by an attacker during a protest march in Wazirabad, on the north-eastern side of Pakistan.
The attack on his convoy, which killed one person and injured at least 10 is being condemned by many world leaders.

The attempt on Imran’s life, who was a world-class cricketer-turned-politician, stunned the country today, with schools ordered closed in the capital, Islamabad, after his party, Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) called for nationwide protests following Friday prayers.
Pakistan President Arif Alvi – a founding member of the PTI – called it a “heinous assassination attempt”, along with his political opponents, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who ordered an immediate investigation.
Pakistan, which is in the midst of an economic crisis and the recent devastating floods has a record of political violence, with former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto assassinated in 2007. Many evoked her killing in the wake of the attack on Mr Khan.
